Why Should We Hire you…

One of the toughest and most dreaded parts of an interview: “Why should we hire you?” Such a simple question holds such a pivotal answer to the job seekers’ search for employment.

Remember, job interviews are about selling yourself and your skills to a future employer. The “dreaded question” actually opens up the opportunity to openly sell yourself, therefore your answer should be structured around you and what you can bring to the table.

During interviews, your most powerful assets are your tone, body language, and overall confidence. Speak confidently and monitor your tone. Most people waiver in confidence when asked a question they have been anxiously anticipating. Boost your tone and confidence with a touch of enthusiasm. If you are excited about yourself and your skill set, the interviewer will feel and potentially absorb it. Enthusiasm is contagious. So smile a little more, be confident, and consistent throughout the interview.

But how does one actually answer this question? Why you? What sets you apart from the rest?

Your relevant work experiences will help set you apart. You need to be able to demonstrate that your responsibilities and accomplishments in prior roles have provided you with enough experience to successfully perform in the role you are applying for.

Your transferable skills will prove you to be a valuable addition. Transferable skills are skills that you pick up in different work or personal environments and take with you wherever you go. Before you interview with a company, you should always research them to familiarize yourself with their goals, beliefs, and practices By doing that you are better equipped to provide an accurate answer to the tough questions. Examine and prioritize your transferable skills. The more developed those skills are, the more valuable you will be to the company.

Remember; be confident in yourself, your experiences, and skills. This is an opportunity to sell yourself. Use some of these tips and look forward to answering the question and showcasing yourself in a way that will set you apart from the rest.
